I doubt this is possible, but does anyone know of a way to extract the
caller ID on an incoming call to a mobile phone, and get it into some
application running on a PC?
Can some phones send it via their USB interface, or by any other means?
(eg. bluetooth, or intercepting the incoming call somehow?)
It's for a sort of CRM application - already being done with desk phones
and an application running on a PC which talk to the PBX that pops up a
screen when the phone rings and uses the incoming caller-id to identify
the caller, bring up their "file", etc. - I'm just wondering if it's
possible to extend it to mobiles...

You can get Bluetooth things that will display the number on an inbound
call, so that is an option...

You could dock the mobile using a dock-n-talk from
<http://www.phonelabs.com/prd05.asp> connected to your PABX & have all
the features you have on your fixed line.....or stick the SIM in a
premicell connected to the PABX

Hm. That is intersting, if it can carry through all the features.

We mooted this idea, but it gets too fiddly (for sales & marketing types

If your PABX is capable of displaying CallerID Name, the dock-n-talk
will allow you to view name (from phone memory) and number on connected
phones.
Very useful kit, if a bit difficult to source in the UK.
Clearly, the handset would need to be compatible - with it being a US
device, many of the newer UK phones do not have a corresponding cable,
however, some of them will work using the bluetooth module. The
advantage the cable has is the unit will keep the phone charged up.

Floats mobile agent for sonyericsson phones does this. When the phone is
connected to the PC over bluetooth (or cable or IrDA) a pop-up box
appears showing the caller ID, and the name and a picture if you have
one stored. So what you describe must be possible.

It's asterisk, so no issues there.

Indeed - not found anything online yet, but if they sell direct from
the US then it shouldnt be an issue (I'd hope)

It's Blackberrys they have )-: No cable, but I'd be surprised if bluetooth
didn't work.
Do you have analogue ports? If not, I'm using mine with an Sipura
SPA3000 and asterisk.

I got my Dock-n-Talk from www.blueict.com, if that's any help.

Particularly as they share the same home! Worth checking, though.
PS. has uk.telecom.mobile frozen? No posts for days and I cannot post.

If you have a Sony Ericsson checkout http://fma.sourceforge.net/index2.htm Its open source and you can
change scrips. It automatically opens a window to show you who is
calling. Checkout the open source.
