Default GSM data calls.

What's the current state of play with these in the UK?
I can't seem to find any actual prices in a quick browse over tarrifs.

Interested for use with http://www.openmoko.com/press/index.html - which
is a completely open source phone.

9600 baud so *painfully* slow.

The prices are often hidden away and usually can't be taken out of
inclusive minutes.

GPRS is the best option which I note it supports. Pity it isn't 3G or
HSPDA though.

Steve.

On Orange, GSM data at 9600 or 14400 to a geographic number or
0800/0808/0845 is 10p per minute at all times and does not come from
inclusive minutes. AT 28.8 (HSCSD) it is 25p per minute.

I should have clarified - I was meaning mobile-mobile.
GPRS has flaws - it's latency is just horrible.
A mobile data-data call is much more reliable, when doing stuff like
VOIP, with a side-channel to share data.

Surely it's easier just to call the person?

I'm guessing that's for current tariffs. My ED50 gives me data calls to
01/02/0845/0870 inclusive at 9600bps. (My L7 doesn't do HSCSD)

Yes.
However, calling someone with a compatible phone, and being able to
automatically send complete contact details along during the call, share
pictures, bits of text, have your scheduling app talk to theirs about
times you can make, ... may be nice.
Not to mention encryption.
