Default How find which network 07096 is on?

There used to be some sort of lookup table which told you which networl
a UK mobile number was on. Can't find it any more.

How can I find out which network (or more importantly, how much it costs
from a lanline or calling card) to call this number:

07096 805 XXX

070 numbers are personal numbers / find me anywhere numbers, and not
mobiles, so can and often do cost a lot more than calling a mobile.

It's not a mobile number. Mobile numbers start 077/078/079.

As to what it charges, there seems to be a gap in the BT price list.

http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/c....boo/16311.htm

says it's pn7,

but BT standard:

http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/c....boo/00161.htm

and option 1

http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/c....boo/31853.htm

don't have a price for pn7!

There are probably other places around, but I use www.voipfone.co.uk you can
enter a number and it will tell you the cost (for voipfone users but also
the network)

070xx is not a mobile network, it's a "follow-me" number.

There is a price list on BTs website, assuming your landline is provided
by BT of course. It's around 49p per minute.

on the UK mainland... someone pointed to 076 (specifically 07624)

No, not really, just that one can be excused for looking in the wrong
place. This one is a little bit different, having a fixed fee of 50p
and then charged at local rate for the duration of the call (I've now
forgotten whether BT is charging per second or per minute!). Check
http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/c...boo/001619.htm

(I think the whole set of charge codes needs a rethink, given the way
some are listed as pnxx while there are also 'd' 'f' 'gxx' and 'mmxx'
plus the various 'ffxx' codes! I know I hardly ever phone these but
for clarity they could do with starting again!)

Ah ha! So this number would be ideal for the "missed call" scam - 50p if you phone
it for 1 second! Wonder if that's why the OP was asking....

certainly seems that way... I remembered one mobile getting a 1-second
(or less) ring, a few months back... just checked, and here it is for
all to see: 07096 807 708 (2006-05-31 11:50) I remember at the time
looking at the number, and thinking... "no chance" as it stopped, but
no doubt many a salesperson would simply hit the dial option when they
see an incoming call has been missed...

The charge to call this number from a landline or calling card depends
entirely on the price list your landline or card provider uses and any
discount schemes. We would need more information such as the provider
of both.
