iPhone notes: a method to insert the *current date+time*?

In the past I have used my candybar Nokia when arriving at meetings so
i know how much to bill clients (i have a sucky memory when it comes
to times)

The iPhone seems to lack this very basic but amazingly useful
feature. I have a jailbroken (gaol-broken?) iPhone.



Also: it would be useful to use the keyboard in landscape mode from
time-to-time (you can only do this in safari right now i think). I
know the screen realesetate is restricted but at times you really need
it.

There are many great phones made by several different manufacturers
including Nokia, Sony, LG etc.

I have tried a bunch of them and my personal preference is the
iPhone. It not for everyone. (Also, I am not poor so the 'extortion'
is not an issue for me.) [1]

See, phones are like women. Not all guys like the same women: Some
people think Jeniffer Lopez is undesirable because she has a big butt
whilst some guys think she a hot piece of ***. (And this does not make
her any less of a woman) Different strokes for different folks.

I'm not saying other phones are better or worse. I'm just saying that
I personally really like the iPhone. Before i actually owned one I
thought it was a sucky over-hyped and over-priced piece of crap.
Watching Jobs announce in it Jan 2007 I though 'geez, this guys a bit
arrogant!'. When I saw pictures of people queuing up outside Apple
stores (at launch in June 2007) I thought they were nuts.

iPhone. It's very honest. The tagline: "You'll want one, your friends

[1] you do realise yuo can unlock it, rite? it takes literally 4
minutes. use ziphone. it's free. it's easy. O2 can go **** themselves
(even though their revised £35 tariff is quite reasonable, but you
shouldn't be locked in for 18 months)

What will you do when the battery goes flat and you can't change it..?

I won't touch any battery powered device which won't let me change the
battery for a fresh one. Ok I rarely need it but I always carry a spare
battery for my phones and camera. They don't take much space and you never
know when you'll need to use them.

Why do you say that..? Was what I said incorrect..? What use are
'experienced technicians' when I can't get to them..?

The fact remains that a portable electronic device without the means of
quickly swapping the battery is a bad idea. Especially when, like a phone,
that device may be necessary in an emergency.

Do you think the police and other emergency services would entertain
portable radios with fixed batteries..?

USB charger..? Why would I want one of those..? What are they, anyway..?

I do, however, take a mains charger, a car lighter lead and a desk stand
to charge my spare batteries off the phone.

Use a car charger. Or a combined FM transmitter/charger. The battery on my
iPhone hasn't run out since I got it last year. It's not an issue for me.

It might go flat when you've forgotten to charge your spare battery. There
are lots of things that might happen. Like buy a phone that meets your needs.
For you it doesn't seem to be the iPhone.

i have never had a spare battery for a phone, never needed it nor wanted
the fath of having one, most phone, or at least mine could last a 2 days
at least with out needing a charge, when travelling i take a charger.

in the same way i've never needed a ipod changing battery, i've allways
killed the ipod after 3 or so years.

I did put my iPod batteries through a full cycle once per month and it
seemed to make it last longer than I thought it would. I do the same
with my iPhone battery.

I've had mobile phones since the first hand portables came on the market.
I've always made sure I've had at least one spare fully charged battery
with me. Plus, if on an extended trip, two chargers, one mains powered the
other with a 12V car lead.

The phone that meets my needs BTW is the Nokia 6310i. Still using the same
batteries from the 6210 (that was a battery hog if ever there was one..!)
and the 6150 before that. Cycle them correctly and they last for years.

To be honest, my phones spend most of their time in the car kit so rarely
go completely flat, but I've always got at least one spare if they ever
do. It's still a stupid idea to design a piece of equipment that might
just be required in an emergency without the ability to change the battery
easily.

Your iPhone battery will slowly hold less and less charge over time, so
you'll have plenty of warning that a new battery is needed. If you
ignore that and decide to wait until the last possible second to think
about changing a battery, you're every bit as dumb as you sound.

So you will happily use a car charger for your Nokia, but **** using one
for your iPhone. Uh huh...

I saw his statements that the iPhone isn't a "sensible phone", his
refusal to consider using a car charger with an iPhone while happily
using one with your Nokia, and his refusal to let Apple or a third party
replace the battery for him as trolls. I guess I was wrong?

The battery really is a minor issue.

The most amazing feature of the iPhone is that the menu is lighting-
fast. Everything moves at the speed of light. You are not forever
faffing around with little buttons trying to do a task. It's all
really obvious and ultra-intuitive. I know the camera megapixelage
sucks. it's a total non issue. my dad to day use and enjoyment of my
iphone is really high.

It's not so much a phone with extra features (music player etc.) it's
actually a COMPUTER with a phone as an extra.

Get a good data plan (essential in my view)

Today I was sitting in Starbucks, having a wee rest. I wanted to read
my emails. You can just slide your finger across from left to right
and it deletes it.

Did you know that in china there's a huge black/grey market for
iphones. Chinese air hostesses are paid a reward to smuggle them in
from the states! (like 40 quid each or something). that's not due to
hype / marketing. It's purely demand based on the merit of the
product.

you have to ask yourself why so many people are raving about this
product. (and there are not just apple fans etc!)

It's all about the interface!! watch the video. then think about the
stuff you do every day. think how much quicker you'd get stuff done on
an iphone



This is my favourite gadget, next to my TiVo (which was always under-
rated and sound crappy on the tech sheet).. years ago people were like
'what's wrong with a vcr? it does the same thing?!?!? TRUE, but it's
sooo much easier to use.

battery" when I'm out for a walk..?

My whole point is that at some stage the battery *might just* go flat when
you're not within range of a charger or an "experienced technician" - what
do you do then..? I can change the battery on just about any other phone.

Don't be stupid. A battery going flat through normal use is not the same
as one failing through coming to the end of its life.

At some stage, you'll end up using the phone enough to flatten the battery
when you're not within range of a charger. You could do that with a brand
new battery never mind an old one.
