(just for fun) Who has the oldest tariff/handset in use
Like I say, just for fun. Someone was mocking my 3330 the other day,
but I bet it's a spring chicken yet!
Handsets have to connected and in at least weekly use-not in a drawer.
Many old tariffs would be poor value today, but anyone still on 'U'
PAYG or Orange Everyday 50 contract?
For certain patterns of use they might still make sense.
(the former was never really matched until 'mates rates' came out on
T-mob, and IMHO the latter has never been bettered)

3310 & literaly last week i dumped eveyday 50, went onto PAYG as i wasnt get
the use out of ED50, i bet they thought thank feck for that thats another
gone !

My Mums has an old Sagem mw3020, must be at least five years old on an O2
paid up for life SIM that cost £60, at least four years ago, and hass 200
mins off peak every month and nothing more to pay ever !!!!
and my Dad is still using his old Motorola MR30, now that is a brick, on an
Orange PAYG and the phone is still gong strong. In fact I got him a cheapo
Moto C139 when thay were £10 last year at CPW, but he still uses the MR30
!!!!!

Nokia 5140 with some free Virgin sims. The phone still works fine and I
have had that since 1998. Much better sound quality than modern phones.

I still have ED50, suits me right down to the ground
I also still have my Motorola L7089, with an old Cellnet PAYG SIM in it.
(the onscreen network ID is "UK CELLNET" - it predates BTCELLNET)

I've still got my MR30 that I had when I first joined Orange in 1997. Used
it for 3 years, in fact the only reason I changed it was the battery died
and it was cheaper to replace the whole phone..!
Then I had a Nokia nk702 (single band version of the 6150) then a 6150
proper (which I still have and do use occasionally) then the 6210
(lousy..!) and finally the 6310i, of which I now have three (two in
regular use, one new boxed as a spare..!)
I do also have a 7250i which I got given as an upgrade, but I never liked
it so stuck with the 6310i.

Yep O2 did these many years ago, I think they were £100 with a cheapo phone,
and you could have 50 mins any time or 200 mins off peak to landlines and
O2, so not cross net.
I got two SIMS, one for Mun (200 mins) and one for my wife (50 mins) for I
think £60 each, and O2 still honour them to this day, although I bet they
will look for any excuse to get us off them :-)

Tariffs I'm still on are, ED50, PUFFL 50 & 200, Anytime 20, Easylife

Though I still have my U.Genie email address that I registered
originally back in 1999 when the U pre-pay tariff/mobiles were
launched, with the U.Genie ISP. This was possible due to stopping them
(then known as Genie Internet/BT Cellnet) from closing down the ISP
operations altogether in 2001, so users could at least retain their
email addresses. U mobiles would have come with a U.Genie CD in the box
or you could have signed-up online for there internet service at the
time, so part of U lives on! (funny though it may sound but so true)

My mother uses a Nokia 5110 which I gave her about 8 years ago after
having had it for nearly 2 myself, on Vodafone smartstep PAYG.

So U etc have only just gone. They also offered a 'call any one BT
Landline free' tariff- my first mobile in 2000. I don't know how many
people were still on that, but I can see it might have made sense for
some people to stick with that tariff. Did that tariff have a name?

That was specific to the Philips Diga handset. "U" was on that and the
C12.
It's the PAYG tariff that was available in mid-2001. (The L7089 was
originally on Orange.)

I only stopped using the old mr30 just under a year ago when Orange
inadvertently allowed free upgrades on the Virgin equivalent tariff -
I'd shied away from cutting up the old SIM. I've got a spare mr30 as
well - it might be nice to unlock them
A 5110 that my dentist gave me 4 years ago only packed up about 3
months ago (display faded out). I still have 3210 3310 and 2x3510 which
may get used on trips abroad
I also have the O2 puffl contract that a couple of people mentioned. I
think it originally came with a 3310 for £200, but I just got a SIM
for £69. The 50 minutes mostly get used for 0844, 0845, 0870 calls.
It's possible now to register this deal for online billing and stop the
99p a month for itemised billing.
When I took out a 3 contract about 20 months ago, CPW offered £20
part-exchange discount, and I bet I surprised them with a Motorola
Flare - I had to find a larger Jiffy bag than theirs to get the
original box in.

The OVP-V/ED50 combo still works well for me. Lengthy daily evening
calls are the norm, so a typical use of 600 mins a month (out of a
bundled 1500 or so) for £9 isn't too bad.
I still use my Motorola D170 on occasion; especially when I'm going out
and expect to have more beer than is healthy. Having a mobile that only
a few people know the number of isn't such a bad thing. Similarly having
a phone that isn't desirable and would be difficult to lose isn't a bad
thing either.

Anyone know of anywhere I could get one to suit it..? Just for fun I'd
like to try it again, also can it be unlocked..? It was on Orange but I've
got a Virgin SIM I'd like to use in it.

Probably, but it is a little bit of history. Any idea if they can be
unlocked..? I know it's a single band phone, but as I said I'd like to try
a Virgin SIM in it.

Don't know of any way of unlocking this one, if you get a "Motorola
Graphite" - I think those are T-Mobile locked

I use a Panasonic GD55. It's on Orange VM OVP.
My daughter uses a Motorola v3688 on Orange PAYG with the everlasting
5-a-day Out Here texts.
Other family members use a Nokia 3510 (horrible phone) and a Nokia
7610 (I also use one as a modem) and my car's phone thinks it's on
CELLNET though it has a Tesco sim card in it (large size, of course).
