Default K800i - Characters remaining in sms + Delivery reports

Does the K800i display the reaming characters as you write an sms? I.e.,
does it count down from 160 like Nokias?

Also, do the delivery reports flash up then be put in a delivery report
folder (Like series 60 Nokias), or do they arrive as a normal sms?

Cheers,

Matthew

No.

You get to view them but then they self-delete.

Well, here is a long term Nokia user, staying with Nokia!

Why would you want to keep delivery reports? They just clog the inbox. I
rather like the way it works - it flashed on the screen "message
delivered" and then that's it.

Each to their own I suppose. I prefer a stable handset myself.

Technically true in the context of the question, but a little
misleading. Sony Ericsson phones DO count down the number of characters
remaining, but only once you're within 20 characters of the 160
character limit.

You get a countdown from 20 to 0 at which point the phone beeps quietly
and the words "SMS 2" (or 3 or whatever) pop up briefly as you cross the
message boundary. The same thing happens when you delete, so if you go
slightly over the one SMS boundary you can delete characters or choose
smaller words until "SMS 1" appears.

Finally, if you save a message in the Drafts folder that's more than 160
characters long, the "SMS x" message pops up again when you re-open it.

I've not used any Nokia phones although I know people who swear by them.
I've used Motorola, LG and Sony Ericsson handsets and IMO the SE phones
have the best text interface, particularly in the implementation of
predictive text and dictionary look-up.

YMMV

Yes it does - but only when there are less than 20 characters remaining.
It then beeps and displays 'SMS 2', 'SMS 3', etc. as appropriate.

Depends on the network - on O2 you need to send *0# at the start of your
message and then you receive a confirmation text message. On Orange
(and possibly other networks) then you can request an automatic delivery
report. It will then beep and display that the message was delivered.
After you cancel this message then you can always check the delivery
status of a message by highlighting it in the Sent Items folder and then
going More > View Status.

Overall I've found to be an excellent phone.

Right - I only do short ones.

It actually saves the details of delivery reports with the sent message,
if you go to the sent messages folder each sent message gets a green
tick on it when it's been successfully delivered and you can also select
the message and get the details of the delivery time.

Delivery reports on series 60 Nokias flash up discreetly, then they're put
in their own 'delivery reports folder', where the last 10 or so are kept. It
doesn't get put anywhere in the inbox, but they're there if you want to
check an sms delivered later on (i.e. when someone switches their phone
on) - An excellent way (in my opinion of course)

Yes, it would be nicer to have a stable(er) phone, but my current 6680 is
stable enough for me. I'm just a long term Nokia user, who is "tempted" to
have a change when I upgrade next. I just love Nokia's UI, but would like to
try another manufacture.
I'm just weighing up the odds, listing what I'd miss most. The K800i's last
20 reaming cheaters seems OK to me.

I've got a few months to decide - Probably might go for the N72 though! (not
bothered at all by 3G)
