LG u880 to GSM only

My sister has just finished her contract with 3 and has now moved over
to T-mob. She's kept her LG u880 but is not using 3g. The problem is
that the phone keeps trying to find a 3g signal. Is there any way to
lock it to GSM only?

Any help will be much appreciated

If she's using T-Mobile, why not just let it use thier 3G signal?
