Is her mobile a Tri-band or Quad-band phone?
The USA uses GSM850 and GSM1900 whereas most of the rest of the world
use GSM900 and / or GSM1800.
O2 (+ virtual Tesco) and Vodafone mostly use GSM900 (With a few fill in
GSM1800 cells).
T-Mobile (+ Virtuals Virgin, Fresh, M&S etc) and Orange use GSM1800.
If her mobile is only USA dual-band, then she's out of luck. If
Tri-band then at least you'll have a couple of networks to choose from,
if quad-band then no problem.
I'm sure someone will be along with details on which is cheapest for
calling the USA.
