Default Minimum rate roaming calls?

Oddly, I see that I was charged £1.20 each for 4 calls lasting 1 second each
to the UK when I was abroad (Virgin Mobile): £4:80 for 4 seconds of calls in
other words (bollocks to BT Call Minder).

Can anyone confirm if this is correct - Virgin CS hasn't got a clue and
aside from Tubby bullshit I can get no reply at all?

Gareth.

One of the reasons I never call anyone once I find they have 1571 or
voicemail, why should I pay just because someone can't get to the phone
in time or is on the phone.

http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/callC...=&paymentPlan=

* A one minute minimum call charge applies to all calls. Calls lasting
longer than one minute are billed per second.

Thanks. Shit. I didn't know this. If you think about it it's actually very
dangerous - you try to call someone, during a 2 week holiday, 10 times -
that's £12 for 10 calls lasting 1 seconds each. It really is a scandal. As
much a scandal as BT 1571.

Gareth.

Thats why I have 'Call Divert', when I am out calls just go to my mobile. I
know I pay for the divert leg, but that I make sure that is kept short, as I
call them back if it important.

Why not leave a message asking them to call you? Yes, the initial call
might cost a lot but it will always cost you less (per minute) to
receive a call whilst roaming than to call them.

Here's a crazy idea but it might just work.

How about *drum roll* LEAVING THEM A MESSAGE?!?

Problem solved.

Depends on who you want to speak to I guess - you can't always guarantee
that leaving a message via 1571 will result in the intended recipient
receiving the message.

Besides, wasn't it generally accepted - at the time BT created a free
version of Call Minder - that 1571 was an income generating adventure?

The real criticism here of course if of the mobile companies that insist on
billing a minimum call charge according to per minute costs. Virgin didn't
used to do this. Doesn't (or perhaps didn't) Orange allow the first 2
seconds of a call to be free (don't know about roaming calls).

Btw, just out of idle curiosity, why do you find it necessary to inflict
such a sarcastic, arrogant and loud contribution on an otherwise informative
thread? Is your world inhabited by idiots or has the "joy" of self-love
merely realised its narcissistic potential in everything you say?

Gareth.
