Mobileshop.com Offering Argos Vouchers As Cashback
When I sent my first cashback voucher to mobileshop.com they sent me a message
offering to replace the payment with some sort of electronic item but I
declined.
This morning they phoned to ask me if I would prefer to have the payment
replaced by Argos vouchers which are valued at £110 rather than the £105 which
is what the cashback is for .

Only the email offering me some electrical item with absolutely no spec
whatsoever. (A portable DVD player, iirc.)
Personally, I might have gone for the Argos vouchers in case the cash
is not forthcoming. Of course, they might give themselves another 60
days on top of the cash deadline to send those out, so who knows what
may or may not arrive ?
I've had 2 out of 4 so far, the 3rd is due any day now, and I'm sending
off the voucher for the last this evening. But I fear the endless
payment delays are a bad sign, and may look for a retailer who pays
cashback more promptly next time.
[Or wonder of wonder, a network who'll charge me a reasonable rate for
calls and texts and drop all this stupid phone subsidy lark (my family
must have easily a dozen working phones), but that's never going to
happen in this country as far as I can see.]

Well it was 45 days when I got the deal then they changed it to 60 and are
insisting that it will remain at 60 . I'm due my first CB on 29th December and
sent another one off today so that'll be another 2 months from the end of this
month .
The last CB deal I had with Dialaphone got paid within a couple or three days of
them getting the voucher and none of this nonsense of Mobileshop paying it 60
days AFTER the expiry date on the voucher .
I'll be glad when I get to the end of the contract .

No. But the first thought that comes to mind is - oh shit, there's a storm
brewing ;-)

I did have a phone call offering Argos vouchers a few weeks ago in lieu
of my first claim but I chose to wait for the cash. I'm now at 70 days
after their receipt of that claim, which they say should be paid within
60 days, or 45 days according to the info with the phone. I used their
live chat thingy yesterday and was told that I'd have the money in my
account within 10 days. Doesn't look promising, but they may simply be
trying to delay paying out.
I've also recently received my confirmation email for receipt of my 2nd
cashback claim. The link in the email was to a page which offered me
Argos vouchers within 30 days for 5% more than my claim value, or a
portable DVD player, or (get this) a pink table & two chairs set.

Unless I'm wrong it is within 45/60 days AFTER the expiry of the voucher ...so
no doubt they'll take it to the limit

I am certain that it has been 60 days for at least the last year - if
not longer.

That's what happened to me, too. As you say, the 60 days starts when
the voucher expires, and I think they then allow themselves another
*14* days for the payment to "process".

Even if I only get half of it, it won't have been a bad deal. Giving
away a free contract is not exactly the best business plan, but if it's
on offer, why shouldn't savvy punters take advantage of it, is my
attitude. I would still prefer the networks and retailers wised up to
the fact that no-one really believes network use costs anything
remotely near what they claim, and that £25bn wasted on 3G with no
notion of how to recover it wasn't smart, and that perhaps we are
grown-up enough now to pay for phones at a realistic price and network
use at an equally realistic price. Or perhaps (collectively) we're
not. I'm sure I read somewhere that Finland and Sweden have reached
that stage, and probably long before they'd sold 3 phones for every
man, woman and child, or whatever the number is.

I started a contract just before Christmas last year. The cashbacks
for months 4 and 7 were paid on the 45-day schedule, but the one for
month 9 (hopefully coming soon) has been extended to 60 days.
<checks email>
The change happened between Aug 7th and Oct 10th, according to the
emails I received acknowledging receipt of my cashback claims.
However, I recall the terms had changed earlier for new contracts.

6) The "Cash Back" or "Line Rental Refund" will be paid by Mobileshop to the
individual or company who originally placed the order with us by either a refund
to your bank account or by cheque. We aim to process all payments within 60 days
from the valid claim date
Dunno what they consider the "valid claim date" to be though. It's possibly 30
days from the billing date .
