I've been intending to move to Dolphin 35 on Orange (500 minutes, 500
texts, Magic Number). Question 1 is:
- if the number I've chosen for a magic number migrates to another
network, do I get to choose a different (Orange) number at that point,
or must I wait until the 6-month 'anniversary' (when you get to add
another one anyway)?
- If I'm calling any mobile network (not particularly Orange, mainly
but not totally in the evening), what's the best £35 deal on Orange
with at least 350 texts and 500 minutes?
And finally (a bit hopeful):
- anyone seen any particularly good deals on any network for the Orange
M3100/ MDA Vario II/ O2 XDA whatsit with around 300-500 texts and 500
minutes?

Hi,
There is superb information on Orange/M3100 on the Modaco forum. There is
some very good info on the best tariffs to get and, more importantly, HOW
certain people appear to have been haggling with Orange and getting better
deals. In particular, there is info on an Orange unlimited data bundle
which, from what I gather, does not 'officially' exist yet but some people
appear to know exactly how to get the telesales people to give it to them.
One person appears to have been told that now is not the best time to change
his Oange plan and was told to wait a few weeks for some kind of
annoucement - I think this was earlier this month.
I think Orange have to do something re an unlimited data tarrif just in
order to compete with the likes of T-Mobile. From the Modaco forum it
appears some people, re above, are getting this now and I assume that an
official annoucement must be coming soon from Orange. I noticed a story on
the Register a few weeks back saying how Orange were now going to keep MSN
Messenger on the Windows Mobile platform - they had been developing their
own IM client - but it looks like, IMPO, that they have taken note of the
forums where people were saying they would leave Orange if Orange blocked
the MSN Messenger client.
Anyhow, I intend to wait for better tariffs to be forthcoming before going
for an M3100. If it does not happen before Christmas then in the New Year I
will be leaving Orange after being with them for years.
Go to Modaco's forum and do a search for 'M3100' and then for 'Orange' and
read the lengthy threads on the subject.

No matter, after further browsing I see you do. I loved Orange up until a
year or so ago and then France Telecom got involved or something, I dunno
but it all went tits up after that. Customer Service is appalling at best,
online account access is dire and frankly myself and at least eight other
family members are moving away from Orange. I for one am sick of spending 30
minutes sat in a queue trying to resolve a problem when I used to get an
instant response. Furthermore, the contract and PAYG deals are no longer
competitive. Good riddance.

The fair use on this one defines 3000 per month as "reasonable".

Forgive me for being cynical, but I've been visiting this newsgroup for
years and I remember a time when employees of the Telecom Companies
could get into trouble for posting here.
I'm also a moderator on another forum and Telecom employees have
suddenly started appearing there.
Is this a concerted effort to try to negate all the flax?

They shouldn't use the word "unlimited" unless they mean exactly that.
Unlimited means without *any* limits; if they are going to limit it, even
to a high level, it is no longer "un" limited and should not be described
as such. Surely this practice (by no means limited to Orange) falls foul
of the Trade Descriptions Act..? If not it should do.

There are probably an asterisk next to "unlimited". You can get away with
murder if you use an asterisk! 100 texts a day seems a bit too pathetic to
be called "unlimited" though, especially if you regularly cc texts, since
that's only 5 a day cced to 20 friends. And we can't rip off Hutchinson
which is even worse!

There's a quite a bit going on at the moment, and call queues are a
nightmare, nobody can deny that. Things are happening to try and put it
right but it's not an instant thing.
