I hated it, it was crap as a PDA and crap as a phone (bad battery life -
locking) in fact after this phone & a cheap XDA I was given I got totally
fedup with whole thing of having fancy phones with fancy features and bought
a new £30 siemans which at least works as a phone

I was nearly persuaded to purchase one of these a year ago or so, on paper
it looks really good, but after actually using one for a day, I soon seen
the flaws. It's based on the linux O/S, which is good in theory, but again,
an other Motorola slagging match, some things were just counter-intuitive,
and it got on my nerves very quickly.

It's not Linux. It's Symbian UIQ - nothing to do with Linux.
I really liked mine, but I'm pretty techy. It is not user friendly but
can do pretty neat stuff. Much better phones these days of course - I
like the Mio A701.

Hmmm suspicious... the one I used used was perhaps not an A1000 then. Did
motorola do an A850 or something, that was based on Linux? I investigated it
quite heavily at the time, and from what I had read everywhere, it was
basically Linux on a phone, but not briliantly done.

You're probably thinking of the Moto A780. Not a good phone at all.

Yeah that's the one... It cedtainly looked pretty cool - but I started to
worry when only one shop in the UK sold it with contracts!
