Default Motorola Motokrzr K1 - speed dialling won't work

Hello,

I've just got a Motokrzr K1 - could they have come up with a less
pronouncable name? It's on Orange. I always get Motorolas, so I'm used
to the general functioning. But I can't get speed dialling to work.
I've gone into the setup menu and made sure that speed dialling is
associated with the phone book rather than the "fixed-dial" list. I've
gone into the address book and set a couple of contacts as speed dial
number 2 and 3. Orange (or Motorola?) have fixed voicemail as number
1. When I press and hold down key 1 I go straight through to
voicemail. Whoopee. When I press and hold down keys 2 or 3 nothing
happens.

Where am I going wrong?

Have Orange messed up the software so that speed dialling doesn't
work?

Cheers,

Martin

Isn't it something like 2# SEND for speed dialling on Motorola? (Apart
from button 1 of course which is voicemail).

I initially had the same problem with my Krazr K1.

Somewhere in the menus, I stumbled over and/or changed a setting that
had defaulted to using phone memory rather than the SIM card for
these maybe?

Sorry I can't remember exactly what, but that's what you're looking
for. :-)

I can say I've got my address book to View>SIM card only. I have
Speed Dial: phone memory in that Initial Setup menu. Finally, while
in an addressbook entry, the options menu where manage contacts has a
"speed dial" function where you can assign them.

Somewhere in there you should be able to get it working for ya.

Thanks for the advice, Todd. I've just spent nearly an hour going
through the all menus, reading the manual and tinkering with it, but I
still can't get it to work. I think I may have a dud.

Cheers anyway!

Martin

I had a flash of inspiration, and I've solved the problem - I'm
posting just in case anyone else has the same thing and searches the
archive.

I'd put a security PIN on my address book, which was stopping the
speed-dialling function from using the numbers in it. Rather than
asking for the PIN it just wasn't doing anything. I've taked the PIN
off the address book and everything works now.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Cheers!

Martin
