Default moving from Orange to 3 - what will I miss?

After a series of cockups by Orange CS I've asked for my PAC and will be
leaving Orange after being with them from the very early days.

Having at first only considered switching to Vodafone I'm now tempted by
some of 3's offerings.

Is there anything I'm likely to miss having switched from O to 3?

3 use Orange as their backup 2G network so coverage will be the same.
Only difference is likely to be that you will not have the spool symbol
when you get a voicemail, the only network that does not offer this.
Unlike Orange's current tariffs you will also get free delivery
reports. I moved from O2 to 3 but was an O customer for many years, and
am very happy with 3.

I hadn't noticed the tape spool was missing, but now you've mentioned it
that is actually quite frustrating. Now I know why hadn't picked up some
voicemails until it was too late.

I'm on 3 and anytime I've got voicemail I'm sent a SMS telling me, plus I
also have 3mail set to every 5 mins check and the full voice message is also
emailed to me (3mails sent to you and downloaded to the phone are FREE).

One thing you will not get from 3 is a free smtp server, any email sent from
your phone via smtp.three.co.uk are charged (& its friggin dear), but if you
have X-Series or Internet add-on you can use anyother your own isp smtp for
free, I use my O2 and Freeuk servers (Sometimes O2 doesn't work so always
have a backup server).

Calling Customer Services & Technical is free via 333 like Orange.

Checking your current spending & bills on the handset via My3 for Free is a
godsend, one thing I hated about being on O2 last time was I couldn't
quickly check my usage.

I have X-Series and apart from initial teething problems has been great.
Last few days have been a little irratic, I've been denied access a few
times, but think that was the switch over from 2G O2 to 2G Orange as its
working fine today.
Coverage with 3 is very good I stay in Central Scotland and travel to North
West England and apart from a few country roads I use, I have 3G coverage
all the way.

As a first time 3 user (3 months in) I'd def recommend them, I've had
previous contracts with O2 and Vodafone and the N73 and X-Series package I
have now is prob the best deal I've had.

I went from being with O from the days of the "Rabbit" to o2 last year.
Then left o2 last month for no specific reason and have went with 3.

I can't say there is anything I miss from my Orange days except maybe
"everyphone and wildfire" but they are long gone.
The coverage from 3 has been great in the Glasgow area.

Steven.

that's Ok, I find it easier to understand Norwich Union's CS people in
India than I do First Direct's CS people in Scotland.

Don't you mean 'orange are the only network to offer this'. Unless Voda and
O2 have changed it recently they still only do call back and text
notifications of voicemail.

o2 now offer it. vodafone do offer it if you have "vodafone mail" as appose
to "voicemail" (although they insist on sending a text as well as the icon
which is a bit annoying)

Orange and t-mobile always have.

Vodafone started offering it a long while ago.

They did? How do I get it to display that instead then as I would prefer
that to receiving a text. When I call 121 and go to mailbox settings and
then to notification settings I have the following options:

Text Alert - You receive a text message saying you have voicemail waiting
Alert & Deliver - You are called by voicemail and the messages are played
back to you
Voice Alert - You are called by voicemail saying you have messages waiting

None of those activate the spool symbol on my phone.

visit www.vodafone.net and sign up for vodafone mail which is a free
service - like enhanced voicemail which gives you an email address / fax
number etc. This service then has the option of "icon alert"

Ah! Thanks for that - seems to be all set up now.
