N95 and # key to change from Silent to General profile (and vice-versa)
I have an N95 on T-Mobile and if I press and hold the # key it does
*not* switch from General to Silent. I'm sure it *did* at some point
but I could be wrong as I've done some searching on the web and it seems
everyone who got their phone from Nokia in Finland rather than Nokia
seems to be affected. Can anyone confirm this? Explain the problem? Is
it a firmware issue? It seems Nokia are aware of the issue but I've seen
no proper explanation from their message board or otherwise.

No idea but my N95 8GB on Voda works. I was not aware of the feature until
you mentioned it.

If you hold down the 0 key it should start the internet and hold down 1 to
dial voicemail.
Oh and if you hold the key at the top of the phone the screen goes blank.
You guys should really read the manuals which come with the phones or ever
just look at the figure showing the key layout.
PS: I'm tired, I've left my mobiles in the hotel room and I just want to go
back to sleep. "I need a coffee".

The manual which comes with the 6120 from Three is a cut down one
which does not include this information. The link to the full 6120
manual on the Nokia website is broken.

Then I will excuse your rudeness. But next time, why not ask if the
manual contains stuff before berating us?

According to my N95 manual that's what's supposed to happen when you
press and hold the # key, but when I try it the phone actually says
"Change outgoing phone line?"

Your getting more choice than me on 02 in England.
All I get is a # on screen and a long high-pitched whine.

It seems you have to hold the # key down for a bit longer than for the
other keys. It takes around 5 seconds of holding the button down
before the message appears on my phone.

Tried it, and gave up at 20 seconds.

Re: N95 and # key to change from Silent to General profile (and vice-versa)
It doesn't work on all Nokias made in Finland (despite saying otherwise
in the manual!). If your N95 is made in Asia it will work. I'm trying
to find out why from Nokia but a firmware re-install to remove branding
does *not* resolve the issue. Seems hardware related. Will report back
when I find out why from Nokia.

Glad it works for you! ;-)
Hopefully I'll get it working some day too, it's bloody useful!

And Nokia should only put in the manual information that is valid. They
say press and hold the # key to switch profiles. This does *not* work on
all N95s in the UK. Problem reported to Nokia. Will report back.
Re: N95 and # key to change from Silent to General profile (and vice-versa)
According to a friend of mine (in the industry) it will only ork if you
have an icon on the # key of a music note with a cross through it. Seems
this hardware is made in Asia not in Europe. Check the sticker on the
battery to find out where your Nokia is born :-)

The plot thickens. Well, where is your one made? Finland or Asia? You

Well, the battery was made in China, but I guess you meant "the battery...."
compartment, which shows the phone was made in Finland. Amazed really, I
thought everything was made in China these days.

Interesting because I'm on T-Mobile UK and it doesn't work, nor does it
on any other T-Mobile ones I've tried it on. Also on my mates O2 one.
I'll just have to see what Nokia have to say about it. :-)

My battery also says "Made in China", but the label inside the battery
compartment says "MADE BY NOKIA" with no other clue as to which
country it was produced in.
I bought my phone in Hong Kong a couple of days after it was first
released there, but because of the type of charger supplied with it I
suspect it was not originally intended to be sold there.

Black N95 - 2 (8gb, Vodaphone, UK). Has no other markings on the #
key. Pressing it switches between silent and general in about a half
a second. Didn't know it did this... thanks!

Sorry, my bad. What I was trying to ask was have Orange ever had anything to
do with the phone? IIRC pressing and holding the # key is how you switch to
line 2 on Orange Nokias.
