....why is it that the Visual Radio cannot access the net with WiFi?
There's another feature on the phone like this too, but I can't recall
which. Presumably it's a design flaw?
If you're in range of a WiFi access point, why would you want to connect
with GPRS? Even Nokia Maps will connect via Wifi so you can download
maps. Seems bizarre that the radio won't.

Some content might be on your operators WAP portal rather than the
internet in which case a GPRS connection (and thus a private IP) would
be necessary.

It does seem unlikely that my mobile operator would keep a cache of
every visual radio station in the world.

Yep. It connects to a Nokia.com URL too. Not only that but after
paying/connecting with GPRS, it finds no Visual IDs for my local area.
*sigh*
No big deal because listening to the radio is what's important, but the
shoddy preparation of that piece of software just grates. WLAN should
be a valid access point option. It seems the N95's Visual Radio was
designed more with something like the N73 in mind (ie. no wifi).

Download Nokia's internet radio application! That can certainly use wifi.
I've installed it on my new N82, and it's great listening to some usa
classic 80's stations! Sounds very good when connected to our home stereo!

Isn't it fantastic? I have that too and I find myself listening to it
all the time. It seems to buffer and start playing feeds faster than
various internet radio apps on my desktop computer, and the interface
looks pretty nice too.
There does come a time when I need local FM radio though, and it's a bit
annoying that I can't use the visual aspect with Wifi. Ah well, never
mind.

* Click the 'Web' icon on your handset (this applies to the N95
anyway), and you should find a 'Download apps' bookmark in the list.
Click through (it takes you to http://mobile.nokia.com/ea/apps) and
you'll find Internet Radio on page 4. You can download and install from
there without getting a PC involved. =)

You're welcome! God it's good to have mobile phone radio which doesn't
require headphones.
