New Nokia N95! Yeee ha! 4 digit postcode search...??? F***!
YES: I just bought a new Nokia N95!
Hmm... I'm not a big fan of the operating system.
I much prefer Sony Ericsson's OS... but that's just me.
The *ONLY* reason why I purchased the phone was for the in built GPS -
not other reason!
Turn it on: 2 minutes later I find out that you can only do a 4 digit
post code search!
(Also: damn annoying... you have to click on 50 buttons to get to the
post code search bit... that is just damn stooopid... poor
usability... poor design on Nokia's part - is it possible to assign
this to a shortcut key?)
F***.
I feel like selling the damn thing now.
I was happy to put up wiht having to pay £45 for 3 years navigation...
But the 4 digit postcode search p***es me off!
I've read in another post on a forum that you get 7 digit search if
you upgrade.
Can someone confirm if this is true?

Which Sony Ericsson handset did you use? Some use Java and some use symbian.
Although not the same O.S type as the N95 but the O.S in the N95 is far
supirior that most of what is currently on the Sony Erissons.
Am consufesed as to why you *ONLY* purchased the new N95 for its built in
GPS. There are lots of dedicated devices out there that are more efficaiant
and cheaper for GPS

That can be annoying. Maybe it wouldve been wise to wait for better reviews
of the new N95. The Nokia site doesnt say that the software is any better.
As memory serves, it only states 3 imporvements. Theres no big improvements
apart from memory size which is handy if you want to fill the internal
memory up without a card.
F***.

Give it a chance. The N95 is a great phone. One of the best phones around.

Have you had a look for third party software? I have 'Nav4all' on my
handset. Plus google maps.

No, buying a £400 mobile telephone purely for it's additional GPS
capabilities is stupid.

No shit.
Yet some people here would have you believe that a cheap Texas Instrument
GPS chipset, an archaic map licensing cost model, 4 digit postcode search,
shit bundled software and amazingly piss poor third party software support
is the cutting edge of value for money technology.

Yes, all you pay is the data charge. Of course, getting a data deal like
WebnWalk is essential to get the best out of this phone IMO.

Oh the N95 satnav.. what a pain.
My Dad and I took my Mum to Gatwick airport last week. On the way there we
saw the result of an accident on the M25 with massive tailbacks, so we knew
we could not go back the same way. I said to my Dad not to worry, the
satnav on the phone will find us an alternative route back.
Like fuck it did - it sent us into London into the congestion charge zone,
tried to send us through Wimbledon, Tooting and Putney in the wrong
direction. What should have been a maximum 90 minute journey home ended up
6 hours because we got stuck in a serious police diversion with heavy
traffic.

Don't think it has traffic facilities does it?

I don't think it does. Not bothered about the traffic, we could have got
that anywhere, but its the way it sent us into London was the most annoying.
Eventually we ditched the phone (battery died) and we ended up following the
river Thames as that is the way we needed to be.

Which traffic navigation service are you using?

Don't know ( i doubt) if you can get wnw on payg. Nav4all does its best to
minimize downloads (i.e. not downloading the maps unless you ask for them -
by default it just shows you direction arrows and voice guidance). How much
data that is I can't say, as I do have wnw and so have never bothered.
