Mobile firm 3 scraps roaming fees
=========================
Mobile phone network 3 has abolished roaming charges for its UK
customers in seven nations including Italy, Australia and the Republic
of Ireland.
Its users will no longer be charged extra for making or receiving calls
or texts when visiting the countries.
3 said there would be no one-off fees, and that its users would
automatically gain the service.
The other places in which it has abolished the fees are Austria, Hong
Kong, Sweden and Denmark.

Tele2 did that 3 or 4 years ago within the Baltic states!

Prepay customers pay 20p a minute outgoing, free incoming

Wonder how long it is until someone comes back from holiday to find a
four-figure bill
because their phone changes network - or doesn't know how to manually set a
network
And news stories like the below
"I thought 3 offered free roaming in Italy. They told me I could use my
inclusive minutes
and wouldn't get charged," said Joe Bloggg who found himself with a £456
bill after a week in the sun.

Are you saying that they allowed free roaming within the three states?
i.e If you had a Latvian Tele2 card you could roam for no extra cost
within Estonia and Lithuania? As the holder of a Latvian tele2 PAYG
card (which I keep updated because I have a very memorable number), I
can confirm that the only snag is that Tele2 call rates are as
expensive as here if not more so!

You have understood it fully correct. Tele2 have created a "domestic
market" within the three states. The only thing is that you nedd to by
your refill coupons in the same country as the card is issued.
So you Zelta Zivtina still needs Zelta Zivtina atjaunosanas kartes.

Well, no, I'm Swedish and I've spent quite a lot of time in Lativa. Very few
persons spoke other languages than Latvian and Russian when I first went
there so I just had to learn some Laatvian. You and me have been in contact
before concerning Latvia and prepaid cards, 5-7 years ago, I think.

Sveiks Borje!
I'm afraid my memory just doesn't go that far back! I did lend my
prepaid card to an English opera singer about 2 years ago, whom I came
across on another usenet group (soc.culture.baltics), though.
What have you been doing in Latvia or is that a closely guarded
secret??

No secrete at all. I have friends in Dobele and in Riga so my wife and
I are going there every now and then since the wall came tumbling
down.
I have also been involved in developing some of the prepaid cards in
Lithuania and Estionia. I suppose some of this work has also spilled
over to Latvia.
