Default Nokia 6233

With O2 and upgraded to a nokia 6233, very disappointed as the
numbers/letters are virtually illegible (off white on silver background).
Thought the backlight would overcome this but the back light only makes a
difference in a completely darkened room. Is this how it is? Can the
backlight be increased?
Reluctant to play around with the phone to much as I may return it under the
14 day right of return.
Annoyingly the handbook shows a black phone with white lettering but I'm
told that O2 only do the silver.
Keen to stay with a nokia as I have a nokia car kit.
What do others think of this phone?
Any advice welcome.
Fred

I upgraded from a 6320i, the 6233 has better features, ie letting you know
timings of individual calls, etc, and I wouldn't go back to the 6230i, but I
have had to return it, as the dictionary glitched.

when I first got it, I changed to my own individual words, spellings etc,
and 4 months down the line, am having to change them again, its as if the
dictionary is full, and is deleting the first changed items. backlight is
not good, still haven't found personalised settings for it, guy in O2 shop
yesterday just turned the power saver off for me, and this does keep the
backlight on for a long time.

Alter the font size to large, and that should do the trick.

change your wallpaper? then you should be able to read display, make sure
you have black colour chosen for font..

the case wasn't good, it got very scratched on the back bottom half of
phone, they said that was wear and tear, but they changed the phone, on the
dictionary problem. I am happy with it, and wouldn't go back to other phone
now.

O2 were very good about it, and changed it no problem at all.

oops, realise you mean numbers letter on keyboard, thought you meant on
display... when backlight is on, my letters show up as blue, and are quite
distinct.

Thanks for your input, my existing phone is also the 6230i which I reckon I
will keep.

Blueunplugged http://www.blueunplugged.com/ list all the many parts that
make up the outer shell of the 6233. They could sell you a black keypad
which wouldn't look too odd in the grey phone. Like you I was peeved to be
told by Vodafone that I could only have it in grey, even more so when it
arrived in a box illustrated with a black one.
