Default Nokia 8800 Scirocco

Thinking about getting the Nokia 8800 Scirocco on a Vodafone contract.
Do Vodafone contract mobiles come unlocked as they do on O2? Also will
the phone be Vodafone branded?

Gareth

The phone will probably be locked

The phone will be branded, Vodafone are getting better ... but even if it's
just a boot up screen, it will have Vodafone branding

Usually they're unlocked unless part of the Live! range of handsets.

There's a pretty good chance it will be a vanilla handset with nothing on
whatsoever. However, it's always worth asking the supplier directly and
insisting upon an unlocked and unbranded handset as part of the deal.

I work for Vodafone and I've had a look in our stock reports to see
whether the 8800 Sirocco is listed as a vanilla handset. It isn't,
but this phone also isn't a Vodafone Live! branded phone so there
won't be much branding, though it will be locked.

Live! phones are the most heavily branded, with buttons that take you
straight to the Vodafone homepage in addition to logos and welcome
screens etc.

About unlocking your phone, you can always e mail Vodafone using the
web form (www.vodafone.co.uk/contactus) with the make and model of your
phone and IMEI number. If the phone is less than 12 months old, there
will be a charge of £19.99 for the code.

We all have our crosses to bear. Could be worse though, you could work for
Orange (sorry Jon). ;-)

I can't believe that Voda would brand such an expensive (overpriced
handset). Looking at the firmware available, I can't see a Voda specific
PPM, so I'm assuming it'll be a simple CNT pack change with startup and
shutdown screens possibly changed and multimedia settings pre-installed.

Probably best to buy one from an independent dealer then. I know that many
can provide generic GSM stock for Voda contract phones, and at least that
way the OP would get an unlocked and unbranded handset.
