nokia e61 can't see router for more than a few seconds

Hi

I have a Nokia e61 and it's been able to connect via wifi to my netgear
DG834N router for about a year without problems. Since moving house
however and eventually getting my ADSL reenabled (took Demon internet 26
days to move the connection) the phone only sees the router for a few
seconds at a time.

Other devices such as the PC, work via wifi to the router without
problem
The phone's wifi seems to be working fine to other routers (e.g. in
hotels etc)

Symptoms:

Have the phone on to show available WLANs, it only lists my house
network (presumably the neighbours are out of range, PC doesn't list any
other available networks either) and the signal strength is 75% min from
where I'm sitting with the PC also on wifi. Typically the signal
strength for the phone is 90%+. However, once it shows this value it
then goes to no wifi network no signal before going back to 100% again
even through I haven't moved the phone. The signal alternates between
100% and nothing at approx 10-20 second intervals during which time the
PC continues to work fine and the lights on the router stay lit. The
same happens when the PC is turned off at the mains. Having the phone a
few inches from the router makes no difference.

I have the latest firmware on the phone and the router and have
disconnected the router from the mains and the battery from the phone to
reset both

Er, any ideas as to what's going on here and why moving house should
make a difference?

I have a DECT phone but it's the same phone I had in the last house.

Netgear suggested the following

You may have this unstable connection due to some wireless interference.

If you use any cordless phone which works on 2.5 Ghz, Any Satellite TV
or Microwave oven or so Please Switch it of and try.

If you are running Firewall software as like Zone Alarm or Black Ice &
Antivirus program like Norton, Mcafee, Pc-cllin please disable it.

Also please Check the location of the router and the Distance beween the
modem and the router should be 3 or 4 Feet

Do place the router away from any other Wireless Devices and in a
Seperate Cool place

Please try the Following power cycling proceedure as a step to resolve
this issue

Turn off the router, modem & computer.Turn on the modem
first, wait for 2mins till it gets ready then turn on the router & the
computer.

I would like to know whether your computer is hard wired to the router.
You must have a hard wired computer to configure the router.

Somewhere in the settings (not sure where, so google it) try looking for
"power saving" mode and switch it off, then try and connect. Even if that
helps you to connect, it doesn't explain why things changed after moving
house, but try it anyway.

It does appear to be router specific

so I'll try that and see what happens. Doesn't explain why the move
would make a difference unless there is interference as well...

DECT is a different band to WiFi, so don't worry about that.

Did they miss the bit where you said it was a phone you were having trouble
with? Presumably if there was a known incompatibility with the wireless
chipsets that Nokia and Netgear use, they'd have told you there and then.
