Nokia N73 on Orange not alerting when a text message arrives

Hi all,
got a Nokia N73 here which doesn`t do anything to alert the user when a text
message turns up. No noise, no vibration, not even onscreen text to tell
you. You have to go to the inbox to be able to check.

Anyone had this problem before, and know how to fix it?

Try turning the phone on first.

I've had a couple of texts appear in my inbox without a sound or vibration.
At the time I thought I must have touched another button at the same time
when the text arrived thus no warning / on screen "1 new message". Possibly
a bug?

Have you set your text alert sound up properly and made sure the vibration
is set to on in the profile you are using?

Also make sure the "Alert for all calls" is checked in that same profile.

Tried a reboot, and restore to original settings as well. Got the latest
firmware according to the updater proram from Nokia as well!

It`s every single message is doing this, exactly the same behaviour as you
describe.

Yep, it vibrates and makes a noise when a call arrives. I can`t figure out
how I can have done this - apparently before I got my hands on it it was
working perfectly!

After doing absolutely nothing, it worked correctly on receiving a text
message this morning. A text from the same person, 12 hours earlier, didn`t
make the phone beep, vibrate or display any message. I`ve got no idea at
all what happened, but since it`s now working I`m not going to ask too many
questions :-)

Simon I reckon it is a bug in the phone as I still get the odd text not
notifying me. Probably 1 in a 100 so for me it is not a problem.

For me it was about 100 messages with no notification, then all of a sudden
it started working. If it happens again I`ll go to a service centre with it
:-)
