Default Nokia N73 - T-Mobile - Problem with Calls Breaking Up

I've been with T-Mobile for a couple of years.

About 3 weeks ago I was running an Nokia N70 and I started having
problems making phone calls. People were able to hear me ok, but I
couldn't hear them - their voices kept breaking up and it made it very
difficult to conduct conversations.

I reported the issue to T-Mobile but they drew a blank. Before I had
a chance to investigate further, my phone was stolen. I now have a
new T-Mobile branded Nokia N73 and a replacement SIM card from T-
Mobile. Unfortunately, I'm still having the same problem.

I've just spoken to customer services who said that it might be
something to do with the 3G network - both phones are able to connect
to this - and that if I were to select my network manually, I should
be able to check this by selecting the GSM-only "flavour" of T-mobile
network.

Unfortunately I seem to be unable to do this - the relevant menu
appears to have been locked down on my (branded) phone so the only
choice I have re: network selection is "automatic".

Can anyone suggest how I can solve the problem?

Thanks,

Alan.

You haven't actually looked at the right place. You'll find the relevant
settings in the phone menu -> Tools -> Settings -> Network -> Network mode.
Here you should see a list of 3 options:
- Dual mode
- UMTS
- GSM

UMTS is 3G only. GSM is 2.5G only. Dual-mode uses 3G if available and
autmotically switches to 2G when no 3G coverage is available. What you want
to use is GSM.

Mehdi, thanks - I've just had a look, though, and that option isn't
available. In the help screen it says something like "this setting
may be preset for your phone and you may not be able to access it."

Alan.
