Just had one of these delivered and a coule of questions if anyone has
had them.
1. I get the message that says there is no SIM card. I know what the
promblem is, the battery does not 'push' the sim card against the
connections. If I squeeze the phone to make it connect it is fine but
I have to reenter the pin. I have seen someone say that they put a
piece of paper between the battery and the sim to help push it against
the contacts. An alternative would be to send it back but if I am just
going to have the same problem I might as well do the paper fix. Has
anyone else had this ?
2. This may sound like a daft question but... I bought the co-pilot
sat nav which was supplied with a micro sd card. Has anyone tried
installing a larger sd card than the one supplied and somehow using
the c-pilot on the larger card? It is just that I used to keep a lot
of music and audio stuff on my old nokia and would like to do the
same, but I am concerned about putting stuff on the sim if it is
mainly (or completely) for the co-pilot. Any one tried ?
Many thanks
For info, if it wasn't for the problem of the sim card the orbit seems
a nice bit of kit although it is going to take me ages to get used to
all the features I suspect.

Hi ......
I have the orbit too, excellent phone.
Sounds if the SIM card is not seated properly, the lip should slide over
part of the SIM, the micro SD card sits on top, I had similar problems.
I too use Co Pilot, I copied mine from the supplied card to a larger 1 Gb
micro card, also put MP3 files on there too.
You'll have lots of fun with it, I absolutely love mine.

The SIM holder pushed 'down' to unlock and 'up' to lock it in, bit
fiddley but it does work, the Micro card sits UNDER the SIM though, as
said make sure it is slid into the holder properly, . I got 2 1gig
cards from 7dayshop.com for £7ish each no probs coping the stuff over.
Now running TomTom 6 on mine

Thanks guys. For info, the micro SD fits into its holder and then
clicks into place. Then I put the SIM in its holder and it sort of
goes on top of the micro SD and the battery on the top. What I am
trying since my original post, is to use a small piece of plastic
bag , the sort that cables etc. come in, and out it between the
battery and the SIM. SO far it is working fine.
I'll look out for a micro SD and copy from copilot to my new one.
Borg, did you buy 2x1GB because 1GB is the max? I can't find if it
will take a 2GB card?
Cheers

The "official" answer from HTC (who make the Orbit - they call it the
P3300 or Artemis) is:
Thanks for your email regarding your P3300. The issue you describe is
something we are aware of and are currently in the process of
rectifying. It seems to be linked in some way to the latest updates to
Windows Mobile 5 and as such we have also enlisted Microsoft's help in
solving this. It seems that the device is accessing the memory while it
is in an idle state.
We believe we have now fixed this issue and we are in the process of
creating a ROM update to give this fix to our users. We hope to have
this released to the public in the very near future. In the meantime, to
workaround that, you can set the device to turn itself off after 1
minute in the power options, then let the device turn itself off instead
of pressing the power button.
Once the ROM has been released, it will be available for download from
the HTC website in a new section that will be added when the ROM is
available.
Obviously if you do not wish to wait for this update, that is entirely
your prerogative, and we would like to apologise for the problems you
have experienced with our product.
Just an update - I have had no failures for a week now, since putting
the padding in between the battery and the SIM. O2 were happy to let
me rurn it but I can't be bothered to risk it being an inherrent fault
and end up getting another which is just as bad. Very happy with what
i have so far, just wish there were some better shortcuts rather than
just having programs in the start list.
Why don't they allow a hot key (or similar) fro changing from portrait
to landscape instead of having to go through the menus.
My old Nokia had different configurations - that would be good too so
I can change to hansfree mode easily.
Have been using Copilot a lot. Very accurate, takes a long time to
work out where I am starting from so I end up driving off and waiting
for it to catch up. Has a few 'bear left' when it means turn left and
a few 'turn left' when it should say bear left. Could be changes to
the road layouts but not too important. Worst bit is that it gives the
last warning of turning too close. i.e. take 3 rtd exit on roundabout
when I am already on it even driving reasonably slowly !

Yer shame about the screen thing but there is a program out there to
change that to a hot key, trouble is I can't remember where it is now
I want it.
Other hotkeys are easy to set up in the settings. I have the top left
side one set to phone, much easier that the menu way.
There are a few programs to change the 'today' screen and add more
shortcuts.

I can change the keys to a program but not to a particular
configuration. It is as if I need to put a set of key movements into a
script. Probbaly needs a specific application - press once for
landscape press angain for portrait.

Bear in mind that GPS units are much slower to get a position fix if
they are moving than when they are standing still. If you wait a few
seconds for it to get the fix, you will save several minutes of it
trying.

Well, on the PDA version, how early the "just before" warning is
given is configurable. I'd be surprised if it isn't on the phone
version too.

Doh - thanks Hairy - I had another look and can increase from 5
seconds - I'll try changing bit by bit and see what seems best
