I just got some minutes with BT Openzone so I wanna try it out at
Mcdonalds except at my local Mcdonalds they have a Wep Key on their
network and the network is called 'Mcdonalds ...' then a load of
numbers.
I was wondering if all mcdonalds have a wep key, do I just ask for it
at the counter, or what? If I am a paying customer and there's a BT
Openzone logo there, I'd be allowed on it?
I haven't tried at other Mcdonalds so I don't know? Could someone who
has used openzone at mcd's tell me what happens?

Okay but there is only that one there? And there's definitely a BT
openzone logo in the centre of the place, and on teh door? Shall I ask
about it you think?

I'd think that would be the sensible thing to do .

What kind of response d'you think you'd get from the average McDs
employee?
'D'you want fries with that?'.....

I use these on a daily basis and have found that only
about 80% of them have BT Openzone working. I also
found that I have to be very close to the windows of
the building if I am using a laptop in the car.
The SSID you should be looking for is 'BTopenzone'.

Unfortunately I would have to agree. The store team would have nothing
to do with the openzone as it is administered by BT Openzone.
I've used openzone at a couple of hotels and Norwich train station. You
just fire up your web browser and get taken to the bt login page, enter
your credentials and away you go. There should not be any WEP keys
involved.
Perhaps the openzone the OP is taling about is not operational? I would
suggest emailing BT openzone support for some advice, quoting the
loaction of the hotspot.

Openzone is not encrypted and needs no keys, so you weren't looking at
an openzone connection.

I phoned Openzone bout it since Mcdoanlds staff don't seem to have a
clue what a 'network' is, they said that this particular McDonalds'
accesspoint is down, but I've been trying to get on for quite a while
and still no luck. Hmmm

Try a Starbucks. You can access Bt Openzone from their Wifi service.
I pay £5 a month for 500 minutes with BT. Good value in my book

Er, not exactly. You use your Openzone account to access the T-mobile
wifi at Starbucks. I don't go to McDonalds ever, but this sounds like a
localised problem- and that can happen anywhere. I've been to a few
Starbucks where the wifi was down...

Agreed, but it's closer to £6 after VAT.

Yes thanks, I've used Starbucks, I get free minutes with BT Broadband
so I'm just using that at the moment. I've tried another Mcdonalds
works fine, so I'll phone again about that Mcdonalds as using the
internet there was one of the reasons I joined BT so we'll see
