Default Operating Systems

Hi,

I am new to mobile phones.

I am thinking of buying either the Nokia 2630 or

the Sony Eriksson W200i

I've been told that the main difference is in the OS. Can anyone
advise on these.

In addition, I noticed that the SE has a smll joystick for navigation
that appears to be metallic. How comfortable is this to use?

Thanks

What you've been told is pretty much true. The only significant difference I
can see is that the Sony is tri-band which effectively means it will work in
more countries than the Nokia, so if you travel a lot and want to take your
phone, that may be a consideration.
The Nokia doesn't seem to have InfraRed for data transer to a PC of
whatever, though both units have Bluetooth for this purpose.
Also, I can't see any reference in the Nokia spec regarding an MP3 player,
and it only talks about up to 11Mb memory. I may be wrong here, but if you
want to be able to listen to music on your phone (other than the radio) then
you may need to go for the Sony Ericsson...(?)

Although the Operating System is different, what is significant is that the
User Interface is different. Some people prefer the Nokia interface, others
the SE one, it's a matter of personal taste. You really should go to a phone
shop and have a play with both phones to see which one you like the 'feel'
of the best. Same goes for the little joystick on the SE vs the direction
keys on the Nokia.

The operating system doesn't matter a lot - it's underneath, and mostly
it won't have an effect on how you use the phone.

What matters is the 'user interface' - which keys do what. For example,
I just changed a Nokia for another Nokia - simply because all our phones
are Nokia and I don't want to have different keys etc. to learn. I did
once get a Siemens, and it was confusing (and crap, and crap customer
service from Siemens on premium rate phone numbers, but that's another
story).

I was in the 3 shop in Broadstairs last week and the female sales droid
was telling customers that the user interface was the 'operating
system'. Oh dear.
