Default Orange blocking roaming on some networks??

Have just been abroad to Netherlands and France, roaming with Orange
contract 6230i.

In both countries my phone would not allow me to use some of the
networks there even though I know Orange has a full roaming agreement
with them.

In the Netherlands: allowed were Orange NL (no surprises) and KPN (?)
Barred were T Mobile NL and Vodafone NL. If I tried to connect to them
manually phone (Nokia 6230i) said No Network Access.

Asked Orange roaming dept about this when I got home and they said it
was odd and I should call again when next abroad, so I did, when I was
in France. This time:

Ofange F and SFR (Vodafone?) were OK, but Bouygues Telecom was
blocked. I have roamed with them before but couldn't this time.

So I called Orange Uk up from France and they said if I had a working
network of any kind they would not do anything.

Bit worried I'll go to a country with only one net and won't be able
to use it if the problem is with my account.

OR...

are Orange cunningly blocking some networks who don't give them the
best roaming deals. I mean how many people would even realise?

So, have they reduced us to the 2 networks in each country they get
the best deal from?

Jules

Whilst in Spain this year, my wife and I that both have the same contact
phones were on different networks. Can't remember which ones they were but I
thought it odd at the time.

Don't know but I did encounter the same problem in India and Sri Lanka
earlier this year (and then in Belgium and the Netherlands in May of this
year). Whilst in Sri Lanka I ended up using a Virgin account because of a
lack of network access on Orange despite the fact that, according to
previous experience, the Orange account should have been able to roam on all
networks.

I called Orange who explained that the problem "may" (!) have been due to
the fact that I was using a pre pay account. I'm not convinced by this and
although I didn't have contract account to test with I know that the pre pay
account used to work on a wider variety of networks.

Just more bollocks from Orange if you ask me - they used to provide a good
service but now offer far less value for money and service quality than
T-Mobile (which is saying something).

Gareth.

Rather more likely that you only have your phone enabled on 1800MHz band and
so can't roam on 900Mhz bands.

In reverse you would have trouble roaming on O2 / Voda in the UK.

OTOH Orange are crooks

I bought £5 of petrol from them on Saturday.
On Sunday they sent me a message saying they supplying less petrol for their
£5.
On Monday they siphoned out £1.67p of the petrol from my car.

O2 did the same a few years back, except that they sold me £20 worth of
petrol and a few weeks later, siphoned back £12 worth.

Only of course it wasn't petrol it was airtime.

It is not possible to switch my phone in this way. I could use both
bands, just not all networks. Looks like Orange are up to something.

There's no such setting on the phone.
