I've been with Orange for several years, but when I asked about the new
N82 Black they recommended I buy a new contract, as they couldn't offer
me such a good deal on upgrades as a new contract (despite the claim on
the site which says existing customers can get the same deals as new).
They suggested I change my existing phone to a PAYG and keep the number,
leaving a message with the new phone's number. If I migrate the old
number to a PAYG SIM, can I migrate back to a monthly contract and keep
the same number?

Thanks - I've seen that advice already. I was just mulling the various
permutations of options available to me and I wondered whether there
would be anything preventing me going back to pm Orange from PAYG Orange
if I changed my mind later.

Yes you can, although Im suprised youve been advised to do that. There's
a big crackdown on churning at the moment.

Course you can - when it moves to PAYG, leave it 48 hours, then when you get
your new phone, call 0800 079 0200 and ask them to migrate your PAYG number
to your contract one. Sorted.

OK, thanks. I was actually persuaded by them to take an upgrade, for a
reduced monthly payment of £10. Having second thoughts about this. The
phone is due to arrive on Monday. I have a 7-day period to return the
phone - does this mean I can cancel the new 18-month contract completely?

If you return an upgrade your account si reverted to it's pre-upgrade
state. This happens once the phone you returned is scanned in at the
warehouse.

Thanks very much for clarifying - the wording wasn't explicit.
Final question: could I refuse to accept the delivery and ask for it to
be returned? (I'd obviously let Orange know first). It would save the
hassle of returning it later.

You could do, but it's up to you to ensure the phone gets back to Orange
within 7 days. If you trust the courier firm to do this then go ahead.
