Default Orange Upgrade to Nokia 6300 woes

On the Orange OVP Virgin tariff, and REALLY don't want to lose this, as
it's saved me a fortune over the years!

Looking to buy a new phone outright to keep the Virgin plan. I currently
have a Nokia 6230, and it's getting a little long in the tooth. I phoned
Orange, and they wanted £179 for the 6300, which I pointed out was steep,
because it was £139 on Orange PAYG, but I was also forced to buy £10 PAYG
credit (useless to me on the Virgin tariff).

Anyone got any opinions on the Nokia 6300?
Anyone know any better deals than £139+£10?
Ayone interested in a Nokia 6230?

Cheers...

Not sure if it's a 3g phone or not.....

If it is, you're going to struggle - Orange will only supply you with a
3g SIM with a phone supplied by them.

I bought one offline.
its not 3G
what I like.
The feel - its a lovely phone to hold - never thought id say that about a
phone
even in your pocket it feels sleek and does not creat a BULGE
Camera is OK but not great (2MP)
Batt life is ok
screen is very bright and clear
Menus are good and easy as you expect
tiny 1.5mm(?) jack for your own headphones
buttons are nice and big and clearly laid out making text etc easier (some
recent Nokias high end have tiny buttons)
the dial and soft keys are well spaed apart so accidents less likely to
happen

What I dislike
takes 2GB mem card which is fine BUT none of my card readers can read the
full 2GB (only 1G so cannot transfer stuff onto card which meant having to
buy a 1GB card.
Music player is crap IMHO compared to SE, although I do quite like the sound
when played though the single speaker on the back.
Radio is not as good as SE
Not the standard Nokia charger but the tiny pin like connector
headphones are crap (as always)
Mem card sits behind back casing (not battery thank god) but its spring
loaded so be careful cause whenu push it in it may spring back out and over
your shoulder and if u have patterned carpet that may be the last you see of
it ;-)

Overall tho i do recommend it - its just a nice phone

Beware that if you go down the bockdoor route then you will not get a 3G
USIM and will miss out on those benefits.

Seeing as the 6300 appears to be a 2.5G device, he wouldn't get a 3G
USIM anyway.
