Default Is Orange using EDGE Technology?

Recently got a new mobile that is EDGE compatible and installed my existing
PAYG SIM into the phone. Although the phone is working well on OrangeWorld
the speed is no better than my old phone. I thought Orange was starting to
roll out EDGE technology to all sites over 2 years ago? Is EDGE still not
available on Orange? Aparently the phone show display a letter 'E' when an
EDGE service is available....

Geoff

Apparently it is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhance...Europe_and_CIS
I've never used it though.

Not to all sites. They're rolling it out to sites that they don't
intend to have 3G rolled out to for a while, basically using to 'fill
the gaps' in the interim.

Is there any way to tell which Orange sites already have 3G, or EDGE
enabled? A database or something that is reliable and up-to-date?

No point buying a 3G phone if the service is not available locally (or an
EDGE phone for that matter).

http://coverage.orange.co.uk/uk/UKCoverageSearch.htm

Tells which areas have 3G, GSM or patchy coverage, now, within 6 months
or "eventually"

It claims my home is within good 3G coverage though it's nowhere near as
good as the GSM coverage.

It's not rolled out yet it's still in test. Doubt you'd get it on PAYG
anyway. It would eat up your credit very quickly.

Nothing public.

There's also no point specifically excluding 3G phones from your
shopping list for the same reason.
