Noticed a call during the night which I did not answer just kept
ringing and when I checked this morning the diverts to voicemail were
not activated, tried activating them but couldn't, phoned Orange and
they said it's because Im not using an Orange phone but it worked
before.

Orange are useless with things like this. I've been told before
1 "call waiting is not available or supported by orange but it might
work if your handset supports it"
2 That the call barring code is related to the phone security code and
to re-set the barring code i need to factory reset my phone
3 I couldn't set the diverts to voicemail myself, and i needed to ring
every time i wanted to enable/disable it.
All are rubbish and orange seem to have no idea about the services
they offer.
As to the problem....does enabling an unconditional permanent divert
to voicemail work? (*21*+447973100123#)
If so try and ask orange to disable the "auto divert to answer phone"
feature which will give you control of your diverts and change
duration before diverting.

Indeed.

Actually it just started working again last night however I did try
various codes including the one above and the handset reported
"Command Error", seems to work now though.
One of the codes given to me by someone at Orange to try was
##002*22# anyone know what this is supposed to do?

No on both counts, I didn't think to ask at the time and the bloke
nevr told me, but anyway would Orange have known considering the other
rubbish they came out with?

##002# disables all diverts
##002*11# disables all voice call diverts
##002*25# disables all data call diverts
No idea what the 22 bit represents but its one specific type of call -
or orange made it up and meant to tell you *11#
which would be for voice calls!
ivor@despammed.invalid declared for all the world to hear...
