Orange World for free?

Hi all.

I bought a 4MBs for £4 Orange World bundle Tuesday 16th October last
week.
My credit showed the usual £16 worth of Orange World data available -
the £4 bundle always shows as £16 worth of data.

Been using it as normal and not a single penny has been deducted from
my bundle - i still have £16 worth (4MBs).
(Usually after a week i'd have used about £2 or £3 worth of data).

As a test i used Agile Messenger to send some JPEGs to a contact -
about 3 JPEGs totalling 120KBs.
That was last Sunday 21st October and still i wasn't charged.

Yesterday i even connected to the internet on my laptop using my
mobile (an old Nokia Ngage so GPRS and not 3G data) as a modem.
Spent about 10 minutes browsing and using MSN Messenger and didn't get
charged!

Mentioned it to a mate of mine and he too has been enjoying Orange
World data for free in the past week or so, he has an N73 so has been
getting 3G data for free by the way.
So next i got my nephew to try - he has a 6630 - a few mins online
cost him 20p!
(We're all PAYG customers - no contracts).

In the process of ringing 453 to check my balance i've also now 3 or 4
times been given another customer's balance.
Just now 453 told me i had zero pence credit, on Sunday 21st it told
me i had over 100 text messages left out of 150 - i never buy text
bundles and haven't had a free text bundle for ages.

Are Orange in the process of making changes to their system and it's
causing these glitches i wonder?

Any comments welcomed.

PS I searched the Orange website but found no mention of any free
Orange World data for PAYG customers, and a Google search shows
nothing related either.

Well they charged me 20-odd quid for 11mb of data last month which so
the "ripoff" algorithm is still obviously working :-/

On 3 I get 1GB of data for £5 on X-Series, would never pay Orange's rates
again.

I've now been charged for reading an email - took my balance from
£16.00 down to £15.61!

As soon as I can I will switch. Not only are their data rates totally
shit, they were a little economical with the truth when I signed up
(they "forgot" to tell me that the inclusive data I negotiated as part
of the deal was only for their "Orange World" walled garden and not
just any old data).

Let's face it.

4MBs for £4 on Orange.

OR

1GB for £5 on Three.

Can't see it being too difficult for anyone to make a choice.

Jon may correct me on this, but Orange use 'Orange World' to refer to both
their GPRS / 3G internet offering and their WAP portal. The latter is not
really a walled garden as you're not confined to it.

For example, I've got an 'Orange World' data bundle that has nothing to do
with the portal. It allows me full internet access via my laptop or PDA, up
to a certain limit.

So even if your bill says Orange World they may NOT have shafted you! Worth
checking with them and getting the billing sorted out if necessary.

3 you can almost hear Dick Turpin's hoofbeats every time you press Connect.

Even the (once very expensive) Vodafone data rates put Oranges to
shame!!!!!!!!!

0-range - 30 MB for £8.00

Vodafone - 120 MB for £7.50!!!!!

When I saw these France Telecom rates a few months ago, I thought it was a
mistake! Why would ANYONE pay these RIP OFF rates is beyond me!!!!

Although the amount of data orange give is relatively small to the
others, who could actually use up more then 30Mb by accessing the
interweb a few times a day?

I spank mine on Orange world and I sync to the company exchange server
(including all attachments) 6 days a week and I usually do about 11-
12Mb.

For most people looking to access a lot of mobile internet (not modem
use etc) then 30Mb is plenty.

For modem use Orange are not competitive at the moment, there's no
question of that.

Well, moving around on Google maps in satalite images mode on my N73 will
soon use up 30MB data up!

30MB for £8 is VERY poor!
