She is on the OVP/VM tarriff.

Something like £4 per MB, IIRC (gulp)

Not sure. Sorry.

Is there any phone subsidy on Orange OVP Virgin?
How much cheaper was it than on Orange PAYG?

OVP Virgin data rates are nasty, better off on a Orange PAYG data tariff

Does it have to be on Orange?

You could add a 500MB bundle for £5 I think - it's listed as a bundle when I log in to Your Account on the Orange website for my OVP-Virgin SIM.

Standard SIM. She might want a micro SD card though to store
data/music/anything else on. 4Gb is about right

Are your OVP SIMs in phones supplied by Orange, or ones you've obtained
independently. Will the SIMs work in 2.5G or 3G phones - with
appropriate data rates - or are you limited to GPRS?

My wife and I each have Orange Virgin OVP SIMs in old (fairly basic) SE
and Nokia phones supplied by Orange - and I'm wondering what the options
are. We don't use them very much, so the monthly billing for usage-only
suits us very well. Maybe we'd use them (or replacements) more if they
did anything useful besides the odd voice call or text - but we would
want to hang on to the current charging arrangement.

Might do that - Ta! Presumably it would need to be a smart phone, or
similar, with a decent size screen in order to be any use for web
browsing, etc.?

Yes! I got burnt by this as well when I tried a smartphone on OVP Virgin

Orange Mobile internet data 5.3807 13.738 (+VAT!)

I had a fruitless argument with an Orange CS person about how their website
has NO information on this extortionate cost! All data costs which are on
the website semed to say that they would be capped.

I expected to be limited to GPRS only on OVP Virgin even WITH a data bundle -
which looks to have been oncorrect!

I eventually decided to dispense with the tarriff (after ~10 years) and
ported out (to GiffGaff)

Pretty obviously because 2G data speeds (which is what OVP-VM has been
limited to using) was totally insufficient!!!!

You must have me mixed up! I did NOT subscribe to 500GB at 5pounds a month as

(a) I did not want or need that level of expense most months - as other
mobile plans typically provide 3G data at PAYG pricing about 1/10 that
of OVP-VM!

(b) There was no indication that 3G access would be available on OVP-VM even
WITH the 500Gb add-on

Orange have traditionally refused to supply USIMs (for 3G) to
OVP-VM customers any 3G is likely now to be from ex-T-Mobile masts.

OVP is no longer limited to GPRS. Old Orange SIMs can now connect to Orange & T-Mobile's 3G network. Orange are also happy to replace old SIMs for new ones.

As for pricing, new Orange tariffs with no data are capped at £1.50/day. The old plans do not have this cap (although it can easily be added if requested).

I had a old Orange (2G only) OVP SIM which could not connect to Orange 3G.
After the T-Mobile "signal sharing" it could see some 3G - perhaps
because, AFAIK, T-Mobile never used special SIMs for 3G.

You say that it is capped! The Orange website says this as well -and that all
old accounts will have had this cap applied by now!

HOWEVER Orange DID NOT apply such capping to my data usage over 2 days
(see 15pound+ bill earlier this thread!!!). When I phoned them the CS people
mentioned NOTHING about any capping - their options were either pay, I
think, 3.27pounds/Mb OR pay 5pounds for 500Gb. They specified NO other
options!
