Hi,
I called O2 insurance regarding my claim as my P910i is busted. What I was
told is that they cannot replace it with the P990 and I'd have to go either
for:
XDA MINI S
Nokia N70
Nokia 9300i.
I love the SE symbian interface and don't want any other one. Is there any
way that I can get the insurance to give me the P990? If not, what's the
best option out of those 3 or should I ask them for something else? Thanks
for your help.

It seems you're dealing with a second rate 3rd party insurance company
offering you OLD phones. Although I guess in your terms and conditions it
states if they can't offer you the same phone they'll offer you something of
similar value. There you go. Have you broken the phone or has it simply
stopped working? Is it outside its year warranty? For future reference
Nokia's come with 2yr warranty, I hope this helps you in your future choice.

I'm with the O2 gold insurance. I'm really crossed with the whole situation
as I'd gladly accept another P910. My phone is broken. The flip came off
when I dropped it (with a couple of other parts ), it keeps giving me all
sorts of errors etc. Unfortunately it clearly states in the T&C that they
can offer me a phone with similar specs. The thing is, that I don't want any
other phone especially Nokia's as their software is full of bugs and
handsets not as good as they used to be. I reckon XDA mini s is not a bad
option but windows os is not as stable as symbian. Is there any way to get
what the P990 from them? I don't care about 3g etc, just about the os. Maybe
someone here managed to get it?

In my experience of a variety of devices running Windows CE 2 through to
PocketPC 2003 through to Windows Mobile 5, it's getting better but it's
still far from ideal.
Mind you, WM5 is reasonably stable, except, it requires way too many clicks
or taps to do anything.

Actually I'm not joking... It's getting better but my friends that have
Windows based phones are cursing them . They require a lot of clicks to do
anything, and they keep hanging on regular basis. Don't know the exact
models but a couple of them use the HPs with GPS systems built in. To sum it
up, they didn't recomend the phones. I had my p910 for the past 2 years. It
hung on me 3 times before I dropped it, and needless to say that's pretty
damn good, although maybe it's simply that I know how to manage it's memory
and don't install junk onto it

lol, no, I haven't and actually I wouldn't. I'm not into ringtones, pictures
etc. They only installed tomtom to help them while driving abroad. THey keep
complaining that the phones are slow and keep hanging and applications keep
crashing. Maybe they have the 2003 version and it's full of bugs - afterall
it's Microsoft

My WM5 device could do the clever things really, really well. 802.11g WiFi,
Bluetooth, GPRS / EDGE / whatever. Only it wouldn't beep as a reminder and
only connected with my desktop when it felt like it.
I keep on going back to the beautiful simplicity of PalmOS.

I'd agree with you about the Sony P9xx series, they do seem pretty
solid. The Series 60 Symbian Nokias on the other hand are terrible.

Yes, it does: but compare a variety of say PalmOS and WM5 devices side by
side and the PalmOS unit is easier to use.
Its simplicity is both a strength and a weakness. I'm done with my
tinkering stage of owning a PDA / 'phone, now I just want it to work every
time...

Yeah,
I know.. I'm wondering how will I be able to get that one from O2 insurance
instead of getting the XDA mini S. Teoretically they all cost the same it's
just that they're being a pain in the backside about being helpfull to their
customers. Does anyone have any idea how can I get what I want?

Ask for the monetary equivelant of what they're willing to pay for this
'alternative' choice? No harm in asking, most likely you'll get a "no
