Default Phone Companies Calling To Offer New Contracts

Hi,

I'm continually getting phone calls from companies, claiming to be
'authorised agents of Orange', offering me new contracts at around the
same time that my old contract's run out.

I've just had a call from some young lad who used the line that one of
his colleagues had spoken to me some time ago and was unable to give me
10% off, but he was now able to offer me 10% off a new contract.

Of course, that's all rubbish. It's just some sales gimmick.

But I'm left wondering if what they're doing is legal, and I'm even
more curious to know how they're able to tell when my contract's up?
Surely Orange shouldn't be giving that information away.

I don't think they can tell this - certainly I've had calls from such
companies when I've been within the contract period. I've been tempted
to accept their kind offer and see what happens...

I tell them I have a works phone and that work pays for all my calls, but
if they can beat that offer I'd love to take them up on it.

Cheers
