N95 or iphone seem to have v. good sunlight readable screens. I am sure
there are others.

Any cheap phone with a black and white screen. Easy to see in sunlight,
and not a disaster if it gets water damaged.

I would have thought a waterproof phone would be more important?
Nokia 5140i being about the only choice
