Porting from contract to PAYG?

Can anyone tell me how to port to PAYG. I'm on O2 contract.

Do I just buy a PAYG SIM then phone up and say I want to port? Does it
cause any problems that the SIM already has a number?

Just done this today (voda contract to tesco)

step 1: phone o2 and ask for your pac code
step 2: buy a payg phone or sim
step 3: phone the new network and ask then to transfer your number, they
will ask for your pac and details from your new sim.
The port usually takes 5 days.

You don't port within the same provider, you migrate.

Just ring customer services and tell them you want to do it. They may well
send you a free SIM (Orange did with me).
