Porting number to o2 query

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if its possible to port a telephone number from 3
(contract) to o2 (contract) after you have joined them instead of their
signing up process?

Acording to CPW's website 'the PAC code must be provided at point of sale,
not available thereafter' but I was wondering if anyone had successfully
done this?

I've got a feeling if its with o2 direct you can do it once you've got
your new phone. With cpw I think they still act as a service provider so
maybe that's why you need it at point of sale.

Although I'm sure when I went from Orange to o2 a year or so ago I bought
the phone first and then transferred the number.
Best to phone o2 direct.
