Default Porting number within same network (Virgin)

Dear all,

I have a pay as you go number with Virgin Mobile. Recently, I have
signed up for a six months contract with Virgin Mobile through
www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk

Now, I want to port my old PAYG number to the monthly contract one.
So I've phone Virgin Mobile to do that. But I've been told that it is
*not* possible to port a number within the same network?!
I couldn't believe that! That seems so silly to me. I've only signed
up for the new monthly contract assuming that I'm able to port
my old number from Virgin to Virgin!

Is that information I've got from Virgin correct?

I definitely I want to keep my old number. The only thing I can think
of is to get a free SIM card from O2
http://freesim.o2.co.uk/messages.php
port my old number to O2 (so it is outside from the Virgin network)
and then port it back to the Virgin network. BUT that seems to be too
complicated (and would take at least two weeks).
Arrrrrrrrggggggggg........

Oliver

The correct word is "migration" not port, but yes, you can do it. They
will probably send you a SIM free, so don't buy one..!

What you are trying to do is Migrate not port.
The networks don't have to offer migrating, sometimes they will
usually they won't, as what you are doing is sneaking a cheap upgrade

If they won't, then port the number to another network,
and a month later port it back in

Hi Ivor and Steve,

Thanks for your answer!

I've just checked where to get a free PAYG sim card.

Does anyone know a free PAYG sim card where one
doesn't have to pay up front (I mean without pre-paying)?

Thanks,
Oliver

Yes O2 will send you four, according to their recent advert, and Orange sent
me two in the post (my partner too, but she binned them :-(. )

You will have to do a tenner top up on a O2 Sim first

These are currently free
Virgin come with 1 or 5 quid credit and 2 more quid for registering
http://www.virginmobile.com/promo/duoSim.html

Tesco mobile come with 20p of credit
http://www.tm-standardplus.co.uk/

Voda with 2 quid

That is correct.

Assumption is the mother of all mistakes.

Yes.

Then you should have indicated that when you made your purchase.

Any network will do, but your method is now the only course of action
open to you.
