Where can I purchase a brand new unlocked W550i? I need to gift it to
someone who is going oversees. If not W550i what is the nearest
equivalent?

Check with your local Carphone Warehouse high street branch, I got a W810i
from my local store, it was Unlocked and Unbranded.
