Apologies for resurrecting an old thread BUT...

about a year ago people on OVP (£0/month contract)
were able to get cheap upgrades via the Orange web site.
Has anyone tried this again - as another 12 months have gone by?

I tried but I get told to phone them. However, I had problems with
their web site last year so I thought I'd check.

Cheers

I tried two days ago on an old contract. My mum uses the SIM in her
phone. Upon checking upgrade options on the website it says you have
to ring them. I called and they said they don't have any phones for
less than £100.

So I went out yesterday and bought a (pink) Orange PAYG phone for £60
for her ('I just want a flippy one!') binned the PAYG SIM and then
stuck the OVP SIM in it. Sorted.

Now just hope she doesn't lose it. While they will bar the account and SIM
card, they won't bar the IMEI of the handset, as it wasn't bought from
them.

She's not lost a phone yet and I doubt anyone would nick a pink phone.

Default Barring lost or stolen phones

Does that apply to all operators ? In any case loads of peoples phones
didn't come their provider,
so that would seem to leave a very large hole in the supposed effort to cut
phone thefts.

Martin

It does indeed. When I had a phone stolen a few years ago, I had to get my
MP involved, who wrote a letter to Orange and they agreed to bar my
handset, although by the time this happened the phone was probably long
out of the country. I still have in my possession a letter from said MP in
which I was informed that Orange had agreed to bar the last handset a SIM
was used in, looks like this is another promise they didn't keep.
