I would also highly recommend Opera Mobile but would also say try
NetFront as this works better for some sites that I use regularly.

However after using both the above trial versions I ended up sticking
with PIE and using a hack that tells web sites that I am using PIE 6 on
a windows 2000 machine which allows me to log on to secure banking
sites etc which is the only thing I really used NetFront for anyways.

Yeah sorry should have posted details of how to do this!

There is a great program called tweaks2k2.net which has the tweak built
in (which I used) and you can trial the program to get the hack or have
a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com where I think the manual reg
change is posted in one of the forums. Also just to say xda-developers
has EVERY bit of information you could want for your mini :-)
