Get a Wind SIM from Italy

monthly payg opt-in or out data tariffs available until Dec (but has
been extended a few times already)

Mega 300: € 8.00 for 20 MB while roaming
Mega No-Limit: € 20.00 for 200 MB while roaming

It doesn't say anything of the sort.

GPRS or 3g roaming is possible in plenty of countries. Read some other
threads on the same forum, or Wind's website

transferred to it So this would be for data-only usage. I will
google around.

Just found it:

"The initial activation must take place in Italy" <

Of course an Italian SIM card has an Italian number, but as you were
asking for data use, that is what I thought you were looking for, in
which case the number is irrelevant.

If you don't care to save the £100 a month you were whingeing about,
then kindly don't waste people's time by asking

An alternative while you get the Wind card set up is a Virgin PAYG sim. Data
costs £5 per MB home or abroad.

T-mobile. Check on the Virgin site for who they have roaming agreements with
in each country you plan on visiting. I have never had any real problems in
Italy and Spain.
