Thanks for all the replies to this post of mine:- most of all to those of
you who attempted to educate me as to the effects of the Faraday Cage and
the effects of Metal Cladding - DESPITE me pointing out that I am/was a
Techy in RF etc and that I use my mobile often in a Tesco Faraday Cage.
In the end I feel that the guy that asked me the question or - in other
words who was accusing Waitrose of such covert counter-surveillance was
indee a drunk who only ever has used his phone near the Beer shelves and not
deep in the Veggie or food depts. Sorry for wasting your time folks :-)

It will probably be worse on T-Mobile, Orange and 3 than O2 and Voda.
Tesco's probably leaks more or they might even have a micro cell inside!
After all Tesco has a virtual network and Waitrose don't. A Google is a bit
messy, but you will get the drift.

Well, you ignored the most obvious reason for the phone not getting
signal. What response did you expect?

Mr. Taylor, I cannot yield to your superior knowledge. What did you expect?
I knew the most obvious reason, can you not read?
As it turns out the bloke that asked me the question may not have been
"all-there" as I've agreed since. I asked the various points in this ng to
get different points or professional views - which I achieved - apart from
"metal cladding and faraday cage theories" which I had already taken into
consideration - hence my paragraph about my RF qualifications. It was an
urban/retail/commercial/political question not a technical question (Richard
Head)
So Dave, to quote your "What response did you expect?" is as daft as me
asking is JF an Author or is Sgt Pepper a keen/good photographer or a
Beatles Album? Read the lines - not just between them buddy.
If I want RF answers I wont ask for them in a local ng, I was searching for
local comments.
Anyone in here bought and/or won Lottery Tickets/Jackpots or tenners? - I
rolled out the two way Sat-Com Systems that sit on top of every Woolworths,
Post Office and Petrol Station in the SE when I was running my firm in the
90's. The NatWest Tower and 90% of the City Buildings have my footprints and
VSAT Dishes upon them and and my cables throughout them, I do not need
trainspotters advising me on subjects that did not require a technical
answer - sorry (I'll sober up in the morning and regret this) .
Faraday Cages are for Pitbulls and ASBO's dickheads. Stick to your trainsets
and sheds or read the posts fully before you try to berate a " common
poster" :-)

Home-brew is by far the best solution to the curse of the drinking
classes. Twentyseven pence per pint is my sort of price - and it tastes
good too.

We've identified a complaint known as E Coli Glenfiddich, which causes a
combination of stomach and memory problems- first noted on the morning after
the original Live Aid when certain parties (not myself, I should add) had no
recollection as to whether they'd phoned in a donation or not.

I've got Voda on contract and 02 on PAYG. The Voda looses signal in
every Tesco I've been in whereas the 02 phone works without fault.

Probably just a coincidence. Look up "sitefinder" that'll tell U where
most all the base stations for the networks are located.
If Tesco was deliberately interfering then Ofcom wouldn't be much
pleased!....

Tesco Mobile runs on the O2 network. Perhaps they do have micro cells or
base stations on the store?

I'm sorry I started this thread a week ago - I was more sorry when I
responded pissed a few days later..now I'm sorry that most of the recent
posters haven't bothered to read the earlier posts and are repeating the
same old stuff.
and............ now I'm sorry that I'm posting a bit drunk again.
Most of all...I'm sorry that either no other interestiung posts have
occurred - or that my ISP hasn't allowed me to see the new posts.

Click on the UK map, enter postcode town etc, and away you go. Its not
that user friendly you have to get the scaling correct for them to
show....
