Hmmmm but the updater checks the net and downloads the firmware. What is to
say you couldn't trick the updater into bringing down a different branded
firmware. I might have to look into this.
Cheers,
Al

It might be possible to change the product code using Phoenix before
using the updater, therefore when the updater looks for new firmware
you could in theory get the latest generic firmware.

Sounds pretty good if you have a branded and crippled handset, if it
works that is. ;-)

Hi,

on a slighly different note I have just been speaking to a vodaphone
customer services rep about the N80 and N91 as i wanted the N80. She
has informed me that they have stopped stocking both of these phones
due to 'software problems' as they have had so many returns.

Can anyone verify/shed anymore light on this? Does anyone know what the
problems relate to?

I was keen on the N80 as it had wifi, does anyone any other phones with
wifi, i couldnt find any.

Cheers.
Suki

Part of the problem seems to be that the networks that brand their
phones can't seem to get their own software working right, so rather
than sell the unbranded generic version they chose not to sell it at
all.

Of course Nokia own buggy software also plays a major part as well.

Sam.

The N80 that shipped with firmware version 3 had indeed loads of problems,
pathetic battery life, very slow SMS sending after a while, very unstable,
bluetooth connection that kept disconnecting... The new firmware version 4
+ Nokia's SMS accelerator (<http://europe.nokia.com/A4149142>) seem to have
solved most of the problems though. See by yourself on AAS' N80 forum:

3 of us in my office have had the N80 and we have all swapped it for
differnt handsets (All Sony Ericsson's!).

I Googled "Mobile Phones WIFI" and found this:
http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/...9283360,00.htm

It has to be better than the N80. It certainly couldn't be worse!
