Default Recommend a Smartphone?

Hi, I've just about had it with my MDA Vario - lord knows why I've put
up with it for 7 months. So it has internet access and mobile office
but it is such a crap phone. It has all the ergonomics of a bar of
soap while being twice as slippery and I've lost count of the calls
I've lost due to the thing just being so slow to answer.

So, money no issue, I need a better smartphone than the Vario. Any
suggestions?

Are there any phones with 640x480 screens on the market yet?

Mobile Excel or compatible would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

I use an i-Mate K-Jam which suits me:

Pros:
Synchronizes email, calendar, contacts with Exchange
Clear phone
Wi-Fi & Bluetooth
Works with my BMW
Mobile Excel
Good keyboard with tidy sized keys

Cons:
Battery life a bit short
Its a bit thick
No FM radio
Camera only 1.2 Mpixels - but hardly ever use it anyway.

Best of luck in your search.

Roger

I don't know, but if it is it's remarkable how different people react to
the same feature set so differently! I have recommended the K-Jam to others
who seem well pleased with it as well. C'est la vie!

Yes it seems it is the same phone. Thanks anyway. Maybe I'm just too
picky.

Or maybe I am not picky enough! Good hunting - and if you find something
very much better let us know via the NG.

Cheers, Roger

640x480 screen? Only Windows Mobile phone I know of is the HTC
Universal (MDA Pro/O2 XDA Exec etc) - if you don't like the Vario, then
the Universal is going to be even worse.

I doubt you'll see a 640x480 screen in the same physical screen size as
the Vario - therefore you're going to increase the size of the device to
fit one in.

We've used the Fujitsu Pocket LOOX PDA which has 640x480 screen, but no
phone capability (just WiFi + Bluetooth etc). Their phone version of
the device has a keyboard but reduced screen size to 240x240 I think.

Thanks David - now you mention it I recall seeing an XDA with VGA
resolution.

I'm considering taking a step down the convergence path - my Motorola
fliptop phone had a terrible display but there was no horrible delay
when answering a call and when you closed the lid - you knew the call
ended.

So David - is there a PDA with internet access if I choose this route?

The problem with this smartphone is the processor.. its a 200mhz pile of
****. I have an orange M500 and that was really good, 400mhz and I never had
a problem with it. The new Orange SPV M700 looks ace.. massive spec
including a faster processor.

But, there is a firmware update here which you might not have???

http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/dow...mda_vario.html

Hope that helps.
