Roaming in Southern Ireland from NI

Do any of the UK mobile operators allow free call receiving when in roaming
in Southern Ireland? All of the Irish operators give you free call receiving
when roaming in the North Of Ireland. Seems pretty unfair to people living
along the border that are using an UK operator if at any time their phone
logs on to an operator from southern Ireland and starts roaming. Just
wondering

I can't answer your original question, but those users along the
border are free to choose whether or not to roam onto an Irish
network. If they don't want to risk being charged by accidentally
roaming then all they have to do is set their phone to manually
register with their "home" network only.

Is it possible to do this? I wouldn't know how to set my phone to only
allow Orange (6230i). I would love to set it to one network only when
abroad sometimes when one network is giving trouble or is more
expensive. How do you do this?

no none of the operators have free roaming although o2 have an ireland
bolt on for pay as you go customers. There may be other offers too.

As for manually changing the network- on nokia's its generally Menu >
Settings > Phone > Operator selection > manual then pick the network
you want to use,

Settings | Phone settings | Operator selection | Manual

When the phone has finished searching for available networks select
Orange.
