I've just bought a new laptop running Win 7 Professional (32 bit), and am
trying to get my S2 working with it.
The internet connection bit looks ok - with the expected applet appearing
(though I haven't actually tried to connect yet)
But there's a problem with the PC Suite - even after downloading the latest
version from the '3' site rather than using the CD which came with the
phone. The application opens ok, and displays icons for My Stuff, Contacts,
Text Message, etc. However, when I click on any of the icons, instead of the
expected dialogue box opening, a Windows Explorer box opens - and
immediately crashes!!
I've tried running it in both XP and Vista compatibility modes, but to no
avail.
Anyone come across this, and found a fix?
TIA.

Roger

Interestingly (or otherwise) my 3 S2 and 3 dongle all have a different
responses with XP and Win 7.
On my laptop running XP (S3) I plug the dongle in and it goes into
Checking Device - where it stays refusing to connect. I then have to
close the 3 Dashboard (Connection Window) and restart it. It then goes
into Device Scanning, after a short time it displays 5 bars of signal
and the Connect button is highlighted. Clicking on this usually sets
the green light on the dongle winking, then after some minutes IE
starts up and a connection is made to the web, and then the new
(poorly designed) 3 Home Page comes up.
On my netbook running Win 7 things are more confusing. The dongle
isn't recognised at first. Usually I have to unplug it and plug it
back in a few times. Then I get a Windows asking if I really want to
install the 3 application. If I click 'yes' sometimes it works
sometimes it asks again. It then takes an age (long enough to play a
game of spider) before I get the Scanning Device message. Then after
an equally long interval it eventually highlights the Connect button.
With the S2 I've had no problem with connections using XP. The PC
Suite starts up automatically and the connection flies.
But with Win 7 on my netbook I get no connection at all. My experience
is commensurate with the OP's.
Luckily with the netbook Pret and McD offer free wifi - so any major
downloads etc can be done there instead of using up my 3 allowance.

You're probably right - almost.
Rather than dual booting, I've spent several happy hours today creating a
virtual XP machine inside Win 7 - and the PC Suite runs fine in that. The
modem bit is still on the Win 7 side so I can't run the modem and the PC
Suite at the same time[1], but I can live with that.
[1] For the PC Suite to connect, the S2 has to be attached to the virtual
machine - but has to be released for the modem to work
