Samsung's Studio II software

I've been trying to use Samsung's Studio II software, which is basically a
file manager for uploading to and downloading from a mobile via a USB cable.
But with no success.

Admittedly my phone is about as basic as they come - Samsung's C300 model -
but it's listed on Samsung's site as being compatible with the program.
However, I can't get the software to recognise any link between the PC and
the phone. The technical forum on the website contains a few similar tales
of failure.

Has anyone else tried this package? And if so, with what results?

Further to my previous post, I've now got the thing working, but in one
direction only. I can upload to my phone from the PC but can't download to
the computer from the phone. Which seems odd, really.
