Default Second-hand phone questions.

Hi I have three questions, any advice appreciated.

1, If I bought a second-hand phone (unwanted upgrade), would the
manufacturers one year warranty transfer to me. Or would I need to
register anything?

2, Also with second-hand phones is it still possible to associate the
IMEI with me or my sim, hence if the phone gets lost or stolen I could
get it blocked/barred?

3, Last question about negotiating directly with my network for a
reduction on a new luxury handset. I already have a £40 a month
contract via an independent retailer, is it feasible to call up my
network directly and ask for a reduction on handsets they are selling
to lower than it's PAYG price???

Thanks
KJ

The warranty is never really registered anywhere, all you would need for
warranty service is a dated proof of purchase showing the IMEI of the
phone.

Depends on your network, most would be sympathetic.

Not really sure I understand you there. Why not consult your retailer
and see if you are eligible for an upgrade?

Thanks for the replies Jon. So basically I shouldn't consider buying
second-hand without getting the original receipt, if I want to be
covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

The third question was just querying if it was possible to call up o2
and ask them if they would consider giving me a hefty discount on for
example the Nokia Luna handset, because I already have a £40 a month
contract with o2. I'll give it a go like you suggest.

That is the position I would take. I'm not a lawyer etc but if you've
got a receipt there's no way the phone manufacturer can dis-prove that
you were not the original owner.

Good luck. £40 a month isn't that much and the luna is an expensive
handset.
